On Friday, a strong 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit Thailand and its nearby country, Myanmar. It caused a lot of damage, deaths, and fear in the area. The location of the quake was near Mandalay, Myanmar. It was followed by a strong aftershock with a magnitude of 6.4, which made things even worse.
The tremors caused buildings to collapse, roads to crack, and public transportation to grind to a halt in the affected areas. At least three people were confirmed dead in Bangkok, Thailand, while dozens were buried under debris when a high-rise building under construction collapsed near the city’s bustling Chatuchak market.
Dramatic video caught the moment the building, which still had a crane on top, fell apart into a huge cloud of dust while people screamed and ran away. It’s still not clear how many people were killed or hurt, but the death toll is likely to rise as more buildings fall. Myanmar’s second-largest city was hit hard by the earthquake.
Video footage showed homes that had been destroyed, roads that had buckled and cracked, and people desperately looking for survivors. For the worst-hit areas, Myanmar’s government says they need blood donations right away. This means that many people are hurt and need medical help.
Myanmar’s infrastructure is already under a lot of stress from the civil war, which makes it even harder to help people who need it. Thai capital Bangkok was hit hard by the earthquake, and fear quickly spread there. When the tall building near Chatuchak Market fell, it shook the whole city.
People ran to the scene of the crash as the sirens went off. Videos showed vehicles stuck in massive traffic jams, as frightened residents and office workers attempted to evacuate. The elevated rapid transit system and subway were temporarily shut down to assess potential structural damage, adding to the chaos in one of the world’s busiest urban centers.
The city’s emergency services worked quickly to protect areas where buildings and falling objects had caused damage. Hospitals were ready for a flood of hurt people, and authorities told people to stay inside to avoid aftershocks. As a safety step, many people in office buildings and shopping malls were removed. Myanmar seems to have taken the most damage, even though Thailand has reported a lot of damage.
The country is already going through a terrible civil war that has caused a humanitarian crisis, and the earthquake has made things even worse for the people who live there. People are afraid that many more people could be trapped or killed under the rubble because it’s still not clear how bad the damage is in rural and hard-to-reach areas.

There are still aftershocks in the area, and relief teams in both Thailand and Myanmar are working hard to find people who are still alive and help them. Structural experts are checking to see how stable buildings are, and hospitals are still on high watch in case more people get hurt.
A lot of people in both countries have been told to stay alert and get ready for more tremors. You should be ready for natural tragedies and know what to do to protect yourself and others. What a terrible earthquake! It really makes you think about how quickly they can happen. The rescue efforts are being watched all over the world, and everyone who was hurt hopes they get better quickly and safely.
