From the sun-drenched beaches of the Southern Hemisphere to the wintry scenery of Europe, Christmas is celebrated with distinctive rituals that mirror the rich fabric of world civilizations.

Usually, the day consists in a substantial lunch including Christmas pudding, stuffing, and roast turkey.
  • Germany: Families light candles on Advent wreaths each Sunday before Christmas celebrations starting with Advent. Children set boots at their doors on December 6th, Nikolaustag, expecting St. Nicholas would have treats inside. The Christmas Eve feast, sometimes known as “Noche Buena,” is a big family gathering featuring many traditional foods.
  • Japan: Though not a national holiday, Christmas in Japan has been embraced with original rituals. Usually celebrated with romantic dinners and gift-giving among couples, this is a time for spreading happiness. A unique custom that has been somewhat common in recent years is savoring a Christmas dinner from a well-known fast-food restaurant.

  • Australia: Australia refers to Christmas falls in Australia during the summer, which results in distinctive celebrations including barbecues and beach parties. Though many choose outdoor picnics or seafood feasts, traditional Christmas celebrations dinners are still loved. Popular gatherings involving Carols by Candlelight bring people together to sing beneath the cosy night sky.
  • New Zealand: Summer Christmas celebrations are observed there, much as in Australia. While a classic dinner could call for roast lamb or ham, beach trips and barbecues are also somewhat frequent. Often connected with Christmas, the “Pōhutukawa” tree, with its brilliant crimson blossoms, represents the New Zealand holiday season.
