Launched on April 14, 2025, the Blue Origin mission consisted in a six-woman crew: Katy Perry, Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Amanda Nguyen, Aisha Bowe, and Kerianne Flynn. This was the first all-female crewed spacecraft since Valentina Tereshkova’s one trip in 1963.

Though it celebrated its representation and empowerment, the mission sparked debates about the goals of billionaire-funded space programs. Other stars identified with Emily Ratajkowski’s sentiments. Under a caption “Billion dollars bought some good memes I guess,” actress Olivia Wilde uploaded a photo of Perry kissing the ground upon arrival.

Olivia Munn also questioned the scientific value of the project and highlighted the disparity between the hardships suffered by many people and the costs of space flight. Amanda Nguyen among the participants emphasized the relevance of the goal in face of criticism. First Vietnamese and Southeast Asian woman in space, Nguyen saw the journey as a symbol of peace and a stage to motivate next generations.
During the voyage, she also carried out scientific investigation including tests on menstruation in microgravity. Leading the trip, Lauren Sánchez said the experience was transforming and noted the great feeling of solidarity one gets while seeing Earth from above.
