Kim Soo-hyun Refutes Claims Regarding Relationship with Late Actress Kim Sae-ron​

South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun has publicly addressed and denied allegations concerning his relationship with the late actress Kim Sae-ron, who passed away in February at the age of 24. In a tearful press conference held in Seoul on Monday, the 37-year-old actor refuted claims that he dated Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor. He stated, “I can’t admit to something I didn’t do.” ​

The controversy began earlier this month when a YouTube channel alleged that Kim Soo-hyun had a six-year relationship with Kim Sae-ron starting when she was 15. The channel released videos and photos purportedly supporting this claim. In response, Kim Soo-hyun clarified that their relationship lasted about a year, commencing five years ago when she was of legal age. He emphasized, “I did not date her when she was a minor.” ​

Further complicating the situation, Kim Sae-ron‘s family accused Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, GoldMedalist, of pressuring her to repay a loan he had provided to cover damages from her 2022 drunk driving incident. They alleged that this financial strain contributed to her distress before her death. Kim Soo-hyun denied these claims, stating that neither he nor his agency pressured her over any debt. He expressed remorse, saying, “Many people are suffering because of me. I also feel sorry that the late actress isn’t able to rest in peace.” ​

In light of the allegations, Kim Soo-hyun and GoldMedalist have initiated legal action against those spreading the claims, including the YouTube channel and members of Kim Sae-ron’s family. They want 12 billion won, which is about $8.2 million, in damages for slander and breaking laws that protect information. There have been big effects on Kim Soo-hyun’s job because of the issue. He is no longer working with high-end names like Prada and the Korean cosmetics business Dinto. A Disney+ project with Kim Soo-hyun has also been put on hold because of the fuss.
